The Genbukai Canada teaches the Shito-Ryu system of
karate of Master Demura. Our organization is currently comprised of
18 dojos throughout Saskatchewan and Alberta. Our current membership
consists of approximately 1000 members. The director and chief instructor
of the Genbukai Canada is Cameron Steuart, Godan, whose dojo is
located in Lloydminster, Alberta.
The Shito-Ryu Genbukai of Canada was founded in 1985 and has provided
traditional karate and Kobudo instruction since that time.
Prior to this, Steuart had spent two years in Japan
studying karate and Muso Shinden Ryu Iai-do. In 1984, he returned to
Canada and established his dojo.
In March of 2006 Steuart received the rank of Godan in Shito-Ryu karate from Shihan Demura. In addition
to karate-do and Iai-do, Steuart and other Genbukai instructors also
teach Ryuku Kobudo (weaponry).
Genbukai Canada has many senior instructors knowledgeable not only in
karate, but other martial arts such as kobudo and Iai-do. Some dojos
offer instruction in these various martial arts while some focus primarily
upon karate.
Genbukai Canada offers a wide variety
of instructional opportunities to its members, including tournaments,
seminars, and special training events. We also travel to California
to train at Shihan Demuras dojo on an annual basis, as well as
tours to Japan every second year.
Individuals interested in studying traditional
Shito-Ryu karate as well as Ryukyu kobudo and Iaido are encouraged to visit one of our locations to see what the Genbukai
of Canada has to offer. For further information, please e-mail
